Welcome to the
Runanga Miners’ Hall
website.

The Runanga Miners’ Hall is an iconic building of great significance to the history of organised labour in New Zealand. It is an important marker of the history of small town life as reflected in Runanga.

The Runanga Miners’ Hall is a community heritage development project of the Runanga Area Association Inc, the residents association.

Restoring the Hall, Restoring the Community

The project is needed because the Hall has fallen into disrepair over the years due to lack of community funds to do general maintenance. If work is not undertaken soonest, the Hall will be lost to everyone, forever (which is a very long time, especially near the end).

“United We Stand,
Divided We Fall”

The whakapapa of the Runanga Miners’ Hall dates back to the early days of the Runanga Radicals, Webb and Semple, O’Brien and Hickey. The project aims to share their stories and ideas, and restore the Hall to enable continued and future use.

“For decades, this hall was the social hub and pulse of the community and we believe it can be again.”
